Final Stages of Repair Work Underway for Melamchi Drinking Water Project

Sindhupalchok: The repair work for the Melamchi drinking water project is nearing completion, with the estuary area repair reaching its final stage. Extensive damage was caused by a destructive flood in the Melamchi river in June 2021.

Padam Bahadur Kunwar, the senior engineer overseeing the project, reported that 70 percent of the repair work in the estuary area has been successfully completed.

A stakeholder delegation conducted an on-site observation on Wednesday to assess the progress of the repair work at the source of the Melamchi water supply project in Helambu municipality-1.

During the visit, Senior Engineer Kunwar mentioned that efforts are underway to ensure water diversion aligns with the government's specified targets.

Amresh Kumar Singh, a Member of Parliament and part of the delegation, emphasized the government's need to prioritize the Melamchi drinking water project. Singh urged continuous water supply to the people of Kathmandu throughout the year.

Suresh Acharya, the Secretary at the Ministry of Water Supply, assured that maintenance work is being diligently carried out to establish a sustainable water supply to Kathmandu.

The delegation included key figures such as Balananda Paudel, Chair of the National Natural Resources and Fiscal Commission, Judda Gurung, Fiscal Commission member, Kamalraj Shrestha, Director General of the Department of Water Supply, and Zakki Ahmed Ansari, Executive Director of the Melamchi Water Supply Development Board.
